Job Overview

The Laboratory Research Specialist II operates within a research environment, executing critical tasks related to the qualification and testing of products to ensure compliance with industry regulations. This role adheres to established protocols and performs testing with precision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implements analytical techniques and testing protocols as outlined in documentation.
  • Utilizes analytical instruments effectively.
  • Manages sample processes, including receipt, labeling, and preparation for analysis.
  • Chooses and configures necessary laboratory equipment for experiments and assessments.
  • Contributes to the development and/or evaluation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), testing methodologies, and research protocols.
  • Provides laboratory assistance and supports project leaders in product development initiatives and laboratory studies.
  • Diagnoses instrument malfunctions and testing discrepancies.
  • Adheres to documented policies and procedures as per the company's Quality Management System.
  • Records and documents test results accurately.
  • Mentors and trains fellow laboratory staff.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization within the laboratory space.
  • Orders and replenishes laboratory supplies as necessary.
  • Performs additional tasks as required.

Supervisory Role:

No supervisory responsibilities.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a related scientific discipline; an associate degree may be acceptable with relevant experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a clinical or research laboratory setting.
  • Experience with medical device testing is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with analytical test method development is a plus.
  • Ability to work under moderate technical supervision while performing tasks independently is essential.
  • Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards is required.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is necessary.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Capability to lift up to 20 pounds.

Work Environment:

This position is situated in a manufacturing setting where exposure to biological hazards and hazardous materials may occur. While fulfilling job responsibilities, employees may encounter various odors, fumes, dust, or airborne particles, as well as moving mechanical parts and vibrations. The noise level in the workplace can be elevated.

The physical demands outlined here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. Regular activities include talking, hearing, standing, walking, and using hands for various tasks. Occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling may be required, along with the ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

Specific vision abilities necessary for this role include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Travel Requirements: Up to 10% may be necessary.
