As a Supplier Quality Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to ensure the highest standards of quality and reliability as we expand our satellite manufacturing operations. The Supplier Quality team plays a crucial role in identifying, qualifying, and developing suppliers while implementing corrective actions when necessary. This position requires effective technical communication with both internal and external stakeholders, travel to various suppliers, and the ability to make critical decisions on-site. Your contributions will be vital in enhancing our manufacturing capabilities and establishing Astranis as a leader in satellite production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement phase gates at suppliers for new product launches and oversee the program to ensure successful ramp-up to full production.
  • Lead root cause investigations and develop corrective actions in collaboration with a cross-functional team of engineers and supply chain professionals.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to define requirements and ensure that appropriate inspection protocols are established at both the supplier and Astranis facilities.
  • Evaluate vendor documentation, including certifications and data packages, to authorize shipments.
  • Conduct supplier audits and qualification processes to certify contract manufacturers for production of flight hardware.
  • Establish protocols for incoming inspections.
  • Review Astranis designs and specifications, providing feedback for manufacturability and inspectability, and approve designs on behalf of the manufacturing team.
  • Develop processes to collect and analyze process data from suppliers, monitoring quality and delivery metrics to identify trends and implement improvements.
  • Engage with suppliers to ensure they have the capacity for upcoming projects, and facilitate make/buy decisions and supplier selection to maintain a robust supply chain with high-quality outputs.
  • Create quality clauses and statements of work for various products to ensure clear communication of requirements to vendors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Material Science, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • 2-6 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, design engineering, quality engineering, or supply chain engineering.
  • Familiarity with Mechanical Engineering principles and manufacturing processes such as machining and assembly.
  • Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Knowledge of supplier quality methodologies, including production part approval processes, advanced product quality planning, and first article inspection reports.
  • Willingness to work extended hours as necessary to meet critical deadlines.
  • Ability to travel up to 40% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing, particularly with AS9100 quality management systems.
  • Familiarity with process capability studies and establishing Statistical Process Control (SPC) monitoring.
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques and methodologies, such as design of experiments and process capability studies.
  • Understanding of typical new product introduction (NPI) and production ramp processes, including phase gates and milestones.

Salary ranges are determined through professional-grade salary surveys and compensation data sources. The actual base salary offered will be influenced by various factors, including experience, credentials, educational background, skill level, and the specific requirements of the position.
