Position Overview
As a Supplier Quality Engineer at Astranis Space Technologies, you will play a pivotal role in achieving our goal of ZERO defects while enhancing our satellite manufacturing capabilities through effective supplier management. The Supplier Quality team is dedicated to identifying, qualifying, and developing suppliers, as well as implementing corrective actions when necessary. This position requires strong technical communication skills, collaboration with both internal and external teams, and the ability to make critical decisions on-site during supplier visits.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement phase gates for new product introductions and oversee supplier activities to ensure successful ramp-up to full production.
- Lead root cause analysis initiatives and collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop effective countermeasures with suppliers.
- Coordinate with design engineers to ensure that all requirements are met and that proper inspection processes are established at both the supplier and Astranis.
- Examine vendor documentation, including certifications and data packages, to authorize shipments.
- Conduct supplier audits and qualification processes to certify contract manufacturers for flight hardware production.
- Establish and refine procedures for incoming inspections.
- Review and provide feedback on Astranis drawings and specifications to enhance design-for-manufacturing and inspectability.
- Develop processes to collect and analyze process data from suppliers, focusing on quality and delivery metrics to identify trends and drive improvements.
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure adequate capacity for upcoming projects and manage make/buy decisions to secure a reliable supply chain.
- Create quality clauses and statements of work to ensure clear communication of requirements to vendors.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Material Science, Physics, or a related technical field.
- 2-6 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, design engineering, quality engineering, or supply chain engineering.
- Strong understanding of Mechanical Engineering principles and manufacturing processes such as machining and assembly.
- Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Knowledge of supplier quality methodologies, including production part approval processes and advanced product quality planning.
- Willingness to work extended hours as necessary to meet project deadlines.
- Ability to travel up to 40% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in aerospace manufacturing and familiarity with AS9100 quality management systems.
- Experience with process capability studies and the implementation of Statistical Process Control.
- Proficiency in statistical techniques and methods, including design of experiments and process capability studies.
- Understanding of typical new product introduction (NPI) and production ramp processes, including phase gates and milestones.
