Position Overview

As a Supplier Quality Assurance Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to ensure the highest standards of quality are maintained throughout the supply chain, aiming for zero defects as we expand our satellite manufacturing operations. The Supplier Quality team plays a crucial role in identifying, qualifying, and developing suppliers while implementing corrective actions as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement phase gates for new product introductions and oversee supplier activities to achieve full-scale production.
  • Lead root cause investigations and develop corrective actions in collaboration with a cross-functional team of engineers and supply chain professionals.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to define requirements and establish effective inspection protocols at both the supplier and internal levels.
  • Evaluate vendor documentation, including certifications and data packages, to authorize shipments.
  • Conduct supplier audits and qualification processes to validate contract manufacturers for flight hardware production.
  • Develop and implement procedures for incoming inspection processes.
  • Review technical drawings and specifications, providing insights for manufacturability and inspectability, while approving designs on behalf of the manufacturing team.
  • Create processes to collect and analyze quality and delivery metrics from suppliers, identifying trends for continuous improvement.
  • Engage with suppliers to ensure adequate capacity for upcoming projects, facilitating make/buy decisions and supplier selection to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Draft quality clauses and statements of work to ensure clear communication of requirements to vendors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Material Science, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • 2-6 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, design engineering, quality engineering, or supply chain engineering.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and manufacturing processes, including machining and assembly.
  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Knowledge of supplier quality assurance processes, including production part approval and advanced product quality planning.
  • Willingness to work extended hours to meet critical deadlines.
  • Ability to travel up to 40% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing, particularly with AS9100 quality management systems.
  • Proficiency in process capability studies and establishing Statistical Process Control (SPC) monitoring.
  • Understanding of statistical techniques, including design of experiments and process capability analysis.
  • Knowledge of new product introduction (NPI) processes and production ramp-up methodologies.
