The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) serves as a transformative leader, dedicated to enhancing nursing and interdisciplinary care across various healthcare environments.
Key Responsibilities
The CNO is a paragon of professional nursing standards, advocating for nursing and interdisciplinary care strategies. This role encompasses comprehensive accountability for nursing leadership, strategic direction, quality assurance, and patient care outcomes.
The CNO is tasked with establishing a clear vision for patient-centered, evidence-based care delivery within a collaborative team framework. In collaboration with the Executive and Operations Leadership Team, the CNO will spearhead the planning, execution, monitoring, and assessment of clinical care quality throughout the healthcare continuum.
This role is pivotal in fostering a service-oriented culture that prioritizes exceptional patient experiences, employee engagement, quality of care, patient safety, and operational efficiency.
Leadership and Standards
The CNO will set and uphold professional nursing practice standards, including leadership development and workforce objectives. This position is also responsible for cultivating a culture of accountability and stewardship, striving to minimize unnecessary variations in clinical and practice standards through regional alignment.
The CNO will advocate for strategic patient care priorities, ensuring optimal operational effectiveness and quality outcomes by engaging with both internal and external stakeholders.
Collaboration and Community Engagement
Collaboration is essential; the CNO will work closely with Providence system and regional colleagues to achieve quality outcomes and strategic clinical initiatives. As a member of the Operations Leadership Team, the CNO will contribute to the nursing leadership team within the service area.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution is required, with a preference for a Master’s or Doctoral degree in a relevant field. An active RN license and specialty certification are essential. Previous experience in shared leadership structures and familiarity with Magnet certification processes are highly desirable.
