Patient Safety Specialist

The Patient Safety Specialist provides critical support to patients requiring safety observation, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for recovery. This role involves direct visual observation, verbal redirection, and safety checks to prevent potential harm. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a commitment to patient care, and the ability to work effectively as part of a healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities- Provide 1:1 safety observation for patients at high risk of harm, including those with suicidal tendencies, psychiatric conditions, or medical and surgical complications.
- Offer verbal interventions and de-escalation techniques to manage patient behavior.
- Maintain a safe and clean environment, conducting regular safety checks and ensuring patient rooms are organized and free from hazards.
- Collaborate with RNs and independent licensed practitioners to provide direct care to patients, adapting to their individual needs and comfort levels.
- Document patient care and clinical support activities in accordance with VCUHS policies and procedures.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Certified Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant certification preferred.
- Current AHA BLC HCP certification required.
- One year of experience in a healthcare-related field with direct patient care, or equivalent experience as a certified nurse assistant or medical assistant.
