Patient Safety Consultant

The Patient Safety Consultant Sr. is a strategic partner with VCU Health executive, physician, nursing, and ancillary leaders in planning and implementing data-driven initiatives to achieve clinical excellence. This role serves as a coach, facilitator, or advisor as needed, leveraging established performance improvement techniques and strategies. The Patient Safety Consultant Sr. leads the successful management of change to ensure improvements are sustained and a plan is implemented for ongoing improvement.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the integration of safety and quality into the organization's fabric to achieve care targets.
- Advance the organization through leading collaboration, learning, and communication.
- Implement processes for engagement and teamwork, create learning opportunities, and communicate effectively in multiple venues.
- Ensure the appropriate use of data to drive change and improvement, serving as a mentor and subject matter expert.
- Master's degree in a healthcare field, quality engineering, business administration, or a related field.
- Current license in the Commonwealth of Virginia, if applicable.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
- Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) or Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) required within one year.
- Experience in an academic medical center environment.
- Previous experience applying and explaining statistical process control tools, conducting group facilitation/presentation, and designing data collection tools.
Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur. The role requires a general office environment, with occasional car travel to off-site locations.
