Job OverviewSummary:
This role is situated within the Veterans Health Administration, specifically in the Nursing and Patient Care Services sector. The position is integral to the Ambulatory Care Center team.

The facility is a comprehensive healthcare institution that encompasses various outpatient clinics and provides a full spectrum of medical services, including both inpatient and outpatient care.

Qualifications:
To be eligible for this position, candidates must fulfill all criteria by the closing date of this announcement.

Time-In-Grade Requirement:

Current Federal employees must have held a GS grade within the past year to meet time-in-grade requirements.

For a GS-4 role, candidates should have completed 52 weeks at the GS-3 grade level in any occupation within the Federal service. An SF-50 demonstrating time-in-grade eligibility must accompany the application materials.

Specialized Experience:
Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-03 in the typical progression for this occupation.

Specialized experience includes:
- Accurate handling and transportation of specimens to laboratories.
- Timely acquisition and delivery of blood and blood products.
- Assistance in emergency situations, including resuscitation efforts under professional supervision.

OR Education:

Completion of two years of study with at least 12 semester hours in relevant subjects.

A bachelor's degree or four years of education beyond high school with a focus on at least 24 semester hours in related fields is acceptable.

OR Combination:

A combination of post-high school education and specialized experience that meets the total qualification requirements for this grade level.

Physical Requirements:
The position is primarily sedentary, with occasional walking, standing, and light lifting required. No special physical demands are necessary to perform the duties of this role.
Position Duties:
The Healthcare Technician is a vital member of the Ambulatory Care team, providing essential support to registered nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with patient transport within the Ambulatory Care Center.
  • Addressing basic patient inquiries and concerns, directing complex questions to appropriate staff.
  • Adhering to infection control protocols when handling specimens and equipment.
  • Monitoring and reporting any skin conditions to the relevant departments.
  • Maintaining adequate supplies of linens and blankets in patient areas.
  • Supporting room turnover by performing cleaning and preparation tasks.
  • Conducting non-technical maintenance of equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives and pursuing ongoing education in patient care and safety.
Work Schedule:
This is a full-time position with a standard workweek.
