Qualifications and Experience:

  1. 2 to 3 years of coaching experience in High School or Club Soccer is essential.
  2. A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  3. Must possess a valid California driver's license (Class C) and current insurance.
  4. A clean driving record is necessary (a DMV report will be requested).

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Commitment to uphold the policies and mission of KIPP San Jose Collegiate.
  • Familiarity with the rules and regulations of the assigned sports is necessary.
  • Ability to foster and maintain positive relationships with faculty, staff, students, parents, and community members.
  • Capability to manage a classroom in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, reliability, punctuality, and professionalism with a positive attitude.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; effective communication via email and phone is required.
  • Access to reliable transportation within the Bay Area is essential.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a small team.
  • Capability to coach athletes with varying skill levels.

Key Responsibilities:

Coaching Duties:

  • Plan, organize, and lead the assigned team effectively.
  • Instruct and demonstrate necessary skills and techniques for both individual and team growth.
  • Clearly communicate and enforce team rules and regulations regarding athlete conduct and eligibility.
  • Organize, promote, and conduct tryouts for the sports program; inform the Athletic Department and participants of final selections while maintaining the integrity of the selection process.
  • Consult with the Athletic Director on off-season training programs, including scheduling summer camps/practices and uniform fittings.
  • Create a safe and conducive environment for learning, promoting the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Supervise athletes at all times during practices, games, and transport, ensuring they are picked up by guardians or make public transportation arrangements.
  • Exemplify good sportsmanship and maintain appropriate conduct towards opponents, fans, parents, officials, and the community.

Training Requirements:

  • Complete necessary safety training for basic first aid and injury prevention through SafeSchools and NFHS Learn.
  • At the time of hire, completion of Fundamentals of Coaching or a similar certification from a previous sports season is required.

Physical, Mental, and Environmental Requirements:

Physical:

  • Ability to navigate school campuses and hold meetings in various locations. The role involves sitting for extended periods and utilizing technology. Occasional lifting or carrying of equipment may be required.

Mental:

  • Ability to manage stress from deadlines and normal work standards, analyze problems, generate alternatives, and maintain concentration for extended periods.

Environmental:

  • Work will primarily occur in gym or field environments, which include participants and spectators. Frequent travel (50%-70%) to various gyms and fields may be necessary. Adherence to health and safety guidelines as outlined by relevant health authorities is required.

Classification:

This is a seasonal, part-time, non-exempt hourly position based on a school calendar and time-off schedule.
