Qualifications and Experience:

  1. Minimum of 2 to 3 years of coaching experience in High School or Club Soccer is essential.
  2. A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  3. Possession of a valid CA driver's license (Class C) and current insurance coverage is mandatory.
  4. A clean driving record is necessary, and a DMV report may be requested.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Commitment to uphold the policies and mission of KIPP San Jose Collegiate.
  • Familiarity with the rules and regulations of the assigned sports is expected.
  • Ability to foster and maintain positive relationships with faculty, staff, students, parents, and community members.
  • Proficient in managing a classroom in a professional manner.
  • Exhibits flexibility, reliability, punctuality, and professionalism, with a positive attitude.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; effective communication via email and phone is required.
  • Access to reliable transportation throughout the Bay Area is necessary.
  • Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a small team.
  • Ability to coach athletes with varying skill levels.

Core Responsibilities:

Coaching Duties:

  • Design, organize, and lead the assigned team effectively.
  • Teach and demonstrate the necessary skills and techniques for both individual and team growth.
  • Clearly communicate and enforce team rules and athlete eligibility standards.
  • Organize and conduct tryouts for the sports program, ensuring transparency in the selection process.
  • Collaborate with the Athletic Director on off-season training programs, including scheduling for summer camps and practices.
  • Create a safe and conducive environment for learning and development.
  • Supervise athletes during practices and games, ensuring their safety until they are picked up by guardians.
  • Exemplify good sportsmanship and maintain respectful conduct towards all participants and spectators.

Training Requirements:

  • Complete necessary safety training for basic first aid and injury prevention through designated programs.
  • Possess Fundamentals of Coaching certification or equivalent at the time of hire.

Physical and Mental Demands:

Physical:

  • Ability to navigate various school campuses and hold meetings in diverse locations. The role involves significant sitting and occasional lifting of equipment.

Mental:

  • Ability to manage stress from deadlines, analyze problems, and maintain focus amidst interruptions.

Environmental:

  • Work environment includes gyms or fields with participants and spectators. Frequent travel to various locations is required, adhering to health and safety guidelines.

Position Classification:

This is a seasonal, part-time, non-exempt hourly position aligned with the school calendar.

Compensation:

The position offers a compensation rate of $20 per hour for an expected 50 hours during the season.
