Job Overview
The VCE Marketing and Communications Specialist role is pivotal in promoting and narrating the significant contributions of the Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE) to various audiences, including local, state, national, and international stakeholders. This position involves crafting compelling articles and contributing to various media outlets, including Virginia Tech News, social media platforms, and publications associated with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) and Virginia Tech.
In collaboration with CALS Communications and Marketing and VCE District Directors, the specialist will generate and disseminate content across digital platforms to effectively communicate and showcase activities throughout the region. Responsibilities include gathering social media content and curating engaging imagery and video to represent VCE's initiatives.
As a representative of CALS Communications and Marketing, this role will embody and promote the VCE brand across all communication channels and materials. Coordination with Virginia Tech's marketing experts will ensure adherence to best practices in outreach.
The VCE Marketing and Communications Specialist will actively seek and report on narratives that illustrate the extensive impact of VCE programs and events, enhancing visibility among current and prospective stakeholders.
This position will work closely with the CALS Communications and Marketing team to maintain a consistent flow of content for digital updates. Collaboration with statewide partners and project sponsors will support the outreach and dissemination of project results and deliverables.
The specialist will report to the director of CALS Communications and Marketing and the relevant VCE district directors, operating primarily from the VCE Pulaski unit while serving the southern and central regions of the state.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related discipline.
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience in communications, public relations, or journalism.
- Demonstrated experience in marketing programs and events to diverse audiences.
- Proficient in writing and producing content for public consumption.
- Basic skills in photo and video editing.
- Experience in creating and editing digital content, including engaging visuals.
- Ability to lead training sessions on various topics.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with media to promote stories to a broader audience.
- Background in collaborating with a larger communications team to ensure consistent messaging across multiple channels.
- Familiarity with the Virginia Cooperative Extension.
