Job Overview

Ameresco is in search of a proficient and seasoned DDC (Direct Digital Control) Controls System Engineer to enhance our capabilities. In this role, you will oversee the design, execution, programming, optimization, and upkeep of sophisticated DDC control systems within commercial environments. Your knowledge in controls engineering, system integration, and technical oversight will be crucial in delivering advanced and efficient building automation solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Spearhead the design and execution of intricate DDC control systems in commercial settings, incorporating controllers, sensors, actuators, and associated devices.
  • Formulate and execute detailed control strategies, logic programming, and system sequencing to enhance energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and system dependability.
  • Collaborate with project leaders, engineers, and stakeholders to outline project needs, scope, and technical specifications.
  • Program, configure, and integrate DDC controllers, supervisory devices, and ancillary equipment utilizing advanced control programming languages and tools. Conduct thorough system inspections, performance evaluations, and functional validations to guarantee proper system operation and compliance with project specifications.
  • Diagnose and rectify complex control system issues or failures, employing advanced diagnostic tools, software, and protocols.
  • Enhance system performance through ongoing monitoring, data trend analysis, and implementation of system modifications and enhancements.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the Controls Team, including training and knowledge sharing.
  • Work alongside other trades and contractors to ensure seamless integration of DDC control systems with other building systems, including HVAC, lighting, security, and energy management systems.
  • Stay informed about the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to DDC controls, building automation systems, and emerging IoT (Internet of Things) technologies.
  • Engage in project meetings, progress assessments, and coordination efforts to ensure effective project execution and client satisfaction.
  • Create and maintain precise and comprehensive documentation of control system designs, programming logic, network configurations, and maintenance activities.
  • Offer technical support to clients, addressing inquiries, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring prompt resolution of system-related challenges.
  • Collaborate with sales and business development teams to assist in pre-sales activities, including system demonstrations, technical proposals, and solution customization.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline. Equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • At least 7 years of hands-on experience in the design, implementation, programming, and optimization of DDC control systems in complex commercial buildings.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to travel to various job sites as necessary.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in advanced controls programming languages and platforms such as Niagara, Tridium, or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of building automation protocols and communication networks, such as BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, etc.
  • Proven experience in controls system integration, including integration with other building systems and IoT technologies.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex control drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HVAC systems, including air handling units, chillers, boilers, VAV systems, etc.
  • In-depth understanding of electrical systems, low-voltage wiring, and electrical codes.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities, with the capacity to diagnose and resolve complex control system issues.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and clients.
  • Leadership skills, with the ability to provide technical guidance, mentorship, and training to junior team members.
