Job Title: Hydrant Flow Test Technician

Join the City of New York's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) as a Hydrant Flow Test Technician and contribute to the protection of public health and the environment.

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented individual to perform hydrant flow tests, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of our water distribution systems. As a Hydrant Flow Test Technician, you will be responsible for:

  • Conducting hydrant flow tests to measure static pressure, residual pressure, and pitot pressure
  • Performing mathematical calculations to estimate theoretical pressures and flows
  • Ensuring that all test measuring equipment is calibrated and functioning correctly
  • Recording test information in computer-based inspection software
  • Evaluating pedestrian and vehicle traffic control needs and taking precautions to protect personnel and the public
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A four-year high school diploma or its equivalent, and two years of full-time satisfactory experience as an engineering technician
  • An Associate degree from an accredited college or technical institution with a specialization in engineering technology
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to two years of satisfactory experience
