Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Plumbing Facilities Ops Technician II to join our team at the University of Texas Medical Branch. This role requires a journeyman level industrial/commercial trade craftsman with experience in maintenance and repair of heavy commercial building infrastructure and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform at a journeyman level in at least one distinct industrial/commercial trade craft (Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, Structural, Instrumentation/Electronics, Refrigeration, Electronics/Fire Alarms) for maintenance and repair of heavy commercial building infrastructure and equipment.
  • Proactively maintain all aspects of assigned area of responsibility.
  • Consult with customers on priority of work and assume full ownership of customer problems and equipment breakdowns.
  • Perform detailed inspections of equipment for proper operation and inform appropriate supervisory or managerial personnel of unusual conditions, problems or deficiencies.
  • Perform major repairs on complex systems and supporting equipment.
  • Start up, shut down and adjust equipment or systems in accordance with established operational and safety procedures.
  • Perform preventative or corrective maintenance tasks as assigned and within timelines.
  • Identify maintenance needs and perform pro-active repairs before breakdown occurs.
  • Train and mentor new personnel in area of expertise as required.
  • Read and interpret and provide "marked up" blueprints/drawings for corrections when needed.
  • Attend and participate in project designs, reviews, shutdowns, project meetings, final inspections and commissioning.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or recognized equivalent and one journeyman level industrial/commercial craft/trade as approved by Property Services Leadership.
  • Two years of journeymen-type plumbing experience.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. floor to knuckle and frequent bending, standing and walking.
Working Environment

This role requires working in standard hospital, clinical, laboratory and/or office environments. May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases and harmful chemicals. Some exposure to weather and physical hazards. Exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards and may be required to work in high locations or crawlspaces.
