Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Plumbing Facilities Operations Specialist to join our team at UTMB Health. As a key member of our facilities operations team, you will be responsible for performing journeyman-level maintenance and repair tasks in various industrial/commercial trades, including plumbing, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, structural, instrumentation/electronics, refrigeration, and electronics/fire alarms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy commercial building infrastructure and equipment
  • Consult with customers on priority of work and assume ownership of customer problems and equipment breakdowns
  • Conduct detailed inspections of equipment for proper operation and inform supervisory personnel of unusual conditions, problems, or deficiencies
  • Perform major repairs on complex systems and supporting equipment
  • Start up, shut down, and adjust equipment or systems in accordance with established operational and safety procedures
  • Identify maintenance needs and perform proactive repairs before breakdown occurs
  • Train and mentor new personnel in area of expertise as required
  • Read and interpret blueprints/drawings for corrections when needed
  • Attend project designs, reviews, shutdowns, project meetings, final inspections, and commissioning
Requirements
  • High school diploma or recognized equivalent and one journeyman level industrial/commercial craft/trade as approved by Property Services Leadership
  • Two years of journeymen-type plumbing experience preferred
  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. floor to knuckle and frequent bending, standing, and walking
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use and operate handheld electronic communication devices
  • Skills associated with diagnostic testing equipment
Working Environment

Standard hospital, clinical, laboratory, and/or office environments. May be exposed to occupational hazards such as communicable diseases and harmful chemicals. Some exposure to weather and physical hazards. Exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards and may be required to work in high locations or crawlspaces.
