We are seeking a highly skilled Plumbing Facilities Operations Specialist to join our team at the University of Texas Medical Branch. As a key member of our facilities operations team, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing heavy commercial building infrastructure and equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Proactively maintain all aspects of assigned areas of responsibility, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
- Consult with customers to prioritize work and assume ownership of customer problems and equipment breakdowns, serving as a liaison between customers and Property Services.
- Perform detailed inspections of equipment for proper operation, identifying unusual conditions, problems, or deficiencies, and taking appropriate action.
- Perform major repairs on complex systems and supporting equipment, adhering to established operational and safety procedures.
- Start up, shut down, and adjust equipment or systems in accordance with established procedures, ensuring safe and efficient operation.
- Perform preventative or corrective maintenance tasks as assigned, meeting timelines and ensuring optimal equipment performance.
- Identify maintenance needs and perform proactive repairs to prevent breakdowns, minimizing downtime and ensuring continuous operation.
- Train and mentor new personnel in area of expertise, teaching basic knowledge of codes and proper tool use.
- Read and interpret blueprints/drawings, providing marked-up copies as needed.
- Attend project designs, reviews, shutdowns, project meetings, final inspections, and commissioning, ensuring compliance with established procedures.
- Support area shift coverage, on-call duties, and after-hours or extended projects as needed, ensuring 24/7 operation.
- Participate in disaster/hurricane preparedness, including E1A (Ride out team) or E1B (Recovery team) activities.
- Complete all required compliance training, adhering to internal controls and reporting structure.
- Attend staff, training, and safety meetings, identifying and reporting safety hazards.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A high school diploma or recognized equivalent and one journeyman level industrial/commercial craft/trade as approved by Property Services Leadership.
- Two years of journeymen-type plumbing experience, or equivalent experience in a related field.
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. floor to knuckle and frequent bending, standing, and walking.
- Basic computer skills and ability to use and operate handheld electronic communication devices.
- Skills associated with diagnostic testing equipment.
This role will be based in a standard hospital, clinical, laboratory, and/or office environment, with potential exposure to communicable diseases, harmful chemicals, weather, and physical hazards. You will be required to work in high locations, crawlspaces, and confined spaces, with proper safety and precaution observed when operating and repairing specialized equipment and systems.
