Job Purpose: The Supervisor of Operations role is responsible for overseeing shop employees in a manufacturing environment. This position entails planning and assigning work, coaching and developing employees, motivating, counseling, and disciplining as needed, implementing policies and procedures, and suggesting improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures, and working conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership and ensures effective employee relations by offering coaching and development opportunities, making employment decisions, and resolving employee issues.
  • Maintains effective workflow by monitoring process steps, observing process control points and equipment, monitoring personnel and resources, studying methods, implementing cost reductions, developing reporting procedures and systems, facilitating corrections to malfunctions within process control points, and initiating and fostering cooperation within and between departments.
  • Completes production plans by effectively scheduling and assigning personnel, establishing priorities, monitoring progress, revising plans, resolving problems, and reporting results of processing flow on shift production summaries.
  • Drives continuous improvement in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Morale to achieve positive results in all areas, working to continuously improve in all areas.
  • Ensures organization standards are enforced and assists in the revision or formation of new policies.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on 5S, housekeeping, equipment preventative maintenance, and maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Manages departmental performance measures, including visual controls, and provides regular progress reports to manager.
  • Manages Non-Conforming Material reports to ensure timely material disposition.
  • Performs accident investigations and leads corrective actions.
  • Reports on inventory levels.
  • Manages department priorities.
  • Tracks absenteeism and timekeeping.

Supervision Scope: This position supervises all employees of the department and is responsible for the performance and efficiency of the employees within that department.
