Job Overview

Position Summary:

Protectors of Tule Springs (Protectors) is a dedicated non-profit organization focused on the conservation, preservation, and promotion of the Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument and Ice Age Fossils State Park. We are in search of a committed and enthusiastic individual to fulfill the role of Community Engagement and Volunteer Management Specialist. This position will also involve providing essential visitor support services at Ice Age Fossils State Park.

This role is a hybrid position, combining both on-site and remote work. It presents a unique opportunity to significantly impact the community by enhancing volunteer participation, nurturing a culture of service, and improving the experiences of both volunteers and visitors at the parks.

Key Responsibilities:

Volunteer Recruitment:

  • Design and execute strategies to attract a diverse array of volunteers.
  • Collaborate with various outreach channels, including online platforms and community events, to promote volunteer opportunities.

Orientation and Training:

  • Facilitate volunteer orientations to introduce the organization's mission, values, and specific volunteer roles.
  • Create and implement training programs to equip volunteers with the necessary skills and knowledge for their positions.

Placement and Scheduling:

  • Align volunteers with suitable roles based on their skills, interests, and availability.
  • Develop and manage a volunteer schedule to ensure sufficient coverage for events, programs, and ongoing initiatives.

Community Outreach:

  • Assist in organizing special events, field trips, and tours of the park units.
  • Plan and conduct educational events at Ice Age Fossils State Park for local schools and community groups.
  • Engage in community outreach initiatives.
  • Support guest services at Ice Age Fossils State Park.

Communication and Relationship Building:

  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with volunteers, staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Communicate regularly with volunteers to provide updates, share relevant information, and address any concerns.

Recognition and Appreciation:

  • Develop and implement a volunteer recognition program to honor and celebrate volunteer contributions.
  • Organize events or initiatives to express gratitude and foster a sense of community among volunteers.

Data Management:

  • Maintain accurate records of volunteer information, including contact details, hours worked, and skills.
  • Generate reports on volunteer activities and provide insights for program enhancement.

Evaluation and Feedback:

  • Conduct regular assessments of the volunteer program to evaluate its effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Gather feedback from volunteers to ensure a positive and enriching experience.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
  • Comfortable interacting with colleagues and visitors in person and over the phone to provide support.
  • Adept at clearly articulating concepts and ideas.
  • Proficient in problem-solving and using good judgment.
  • Experience with data management, analysis, and reporting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with G-Suite, including Docs, Sheets, and Meets.
  • Experience with constituent resource management databases.
  • Background in developing training curriculum and content.

Physical & Mental Demands:

  • Travel within the local area to parks and other locations is required.
  • Must be able to remain stationary in an office setting.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and perform various physical tasks.
  • Must be able to read and assess information on computer screens and written documents.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be exposed to varying weather conditions.

Salary: $18 – $20 per hour, based on experience.

Benefits:

  • Semi-flexible work schedule as agreed upon with the Park Superintendent and Board President.
  • Up to 40 hours of earned paid time off (PTO) for personal use.
