Located in the picturesque city of Newport News, VA, we are seeking a highly skilled Senior Nuclear Physics Research Specialist to join our team at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

As a key member of our research team, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our understanding of nuclear and particle physics at the Jefferson Laboratory. Your primary responsibility will be to conduct research in nuclear and particle physics, collaborating with our team of experts to plan, simulate, and execute experiments at the JLab.

Key Functions:

  • Analyze experimental data from JLab experiments using cutting-edge techniques and tools.
  • Run complex computer simulations to predict detector response and acceptance for these experiments.
  • Write and publish scientific papers in top-tier journals.
  • Develop and prepare new physics proposals for review by our collaboration and submission to the JLab Program Advisory Committee.
  • Supervise and advise graduate students and undergraduate researchers working on JLab projects.

Requirements:

  • PhD degree in experimental nuclear or particle physics.
  • Expertise in the ROOT analysis environment and programming languages such as C++ and Python.
  • Experience with neural net development for particle identification and GEANT simulations.

Working Conditions:

  • 100% on-site work at Jefferson Lab, with relocation to the Newport News, VA area expected.
  • Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm work schedule.

Salary Information:

  • $65,000 per annum.
