Position Overview:

The City of New York Department of Correction (DOC) is in search of a Deputy Commissioner for Custody Management and Classification. This pivotal role involves overseeing a dedicated team focused on the strategic placement of individuals within correctional facilities and facilitating their reintegration into the community. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership capabilities and adept project management expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and enhance classification protocols to improve operational efficiency.
  • Provide comprehensive training and development for staff members.
  • Ensure adherence to all departmental regulations and standards.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Public Administration, Criminal Justice, or a closely related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a managerial or administrative role.
  • In-depth understanding of correctional classification systems and methodologies.
  • Background in security management is highly desirable.

Additional Information:

Qualified candidates may have access to federal loan forgiveness initiatives. Residency in New York City is typically required within a specified timeframe following appointment.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness: Eligible candidates may qualify for federal loan forgiveness programs and state repayment assistance.

Residency Requirement: Generally, New York City residency is required within a designated period after appointment. Employees with two consecutive years of service may be eligible to reside in certain counties.
