Position Summary

The Educational Support Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering structured academic and behavioral assistance to students in grades 1 through 12, as required by educators within various environments. This position is dedicated to fostering the physical and emotional well-being of students through positive reinforcement and exemplary role-modeling, thereby contributing to a constructive educational atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement positive strategies and frameworks to guide and support students effectively.
  • Oversee student behavior to ensure adherence to classroom and institutional policies.
  • Engage in communication with fellow staff members and students' guardians regarding academic and behavioral progress.
  • Assist educators with classroom preparations and subject matter delivery, including outdoor and physical education activities.
  • Report any discrepancies, conflicts, or issues to the appropriate educational personnel.
  • Accompany and supervise students as they transition between facilities.
  • Support students in developing effective communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Provide necessary de-escalation techniques and lead others in appropriate response methods, including documentation of physical interventions when required.
  • Ensure the safety and cleanliness of the educational environment.
  • Greet students upon their arrival at the facility or classroom.
  • Conduct necessary student searches as part of daily routines.
Supervisory Role

This position does not entail supervisory responsibilities over other staff members.

Mathematical Proficiency
Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division across various units of measure, including whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

Communication Skills
Ability to tailor information presentation to diverse audiences. Proficient in reading and understanding straightforward to moderately complex instructions and correspondence. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with a professional service approach. Welcomes feedback regarding program-related activities and effectively communicates in one-on-one and small group settings.

Strategic Thinking
Ability to apply common sense in executing written or verbal instructions efficiently. Capable of identifying critical events or needs and adjusting priorities accordingly. Skilled in analyzing problems involving multiple variables in both standardized and non-standardized situations.

Adaptability
Effectively adjusts to changes and uncertainties in new environments. Maintains attention to detail and accuracy in challenging situations. Manages multiple tasks and modifies objectives as necessary while remaining open to feedback and coaching.

Physical Requirements
The physical demands outlined here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. The employee must be capable of managing volatile situations with students, which may include physical restraint when necessary.
