Job Title: Peer Support Specialist

Join Durham County Government in providing essential services to the community. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals struggling with substance abuse, psychological trauma, and mental health issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide guidance and support to clients in implementing a recovery environment
  • Act as an advocate for clients' needs and rights
  • Assist Community Paramedics, Case Managers, and Substance Use Disorder Counselors in connecting clients to community resources
  • Conduct client outreach and follow-up, providing one-on-one counseling and support
  • Teach harm reduction education and strategies to prevent overdose and promote safer drug use
Requirements:
  • High School Graduation or GED equivalent
  • Two years of experience in social work, health services, counseling, or case management
  • Lived experience with mental health or substance use disorder struggles and/or treatment
  • Valid North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist (NCCPSS) certification
