Peer Support Specialist

Join Durham County Government in providing essential services to the community. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals struggling with substance abuse, psychological trauma, and mental health issues.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide guidance and support to clients in implementing a recovery environment
- Act as an advocate for clients' needs and rights
- Assist Community Paramedics, Case Managers, and Substance Use Disorder Counselors in connecting clients to community resources
- Conduct client outreach and follow-up, providing one-on-one counseling and support
- Teach harm reduction education and strategies to prevent overdose and promote safer drug use
- High School Graduation or GED equivalent
- Two years of experience in social work, health services, counseling, or case management
- Lived experience with mental health or substance use disorder struggles and/or treatment
- Valid North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist (NCCPSS) certification
