Role SummaryThe Clinical Respiratory Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering non-operating room intubation services as part of their core responsibilities. This professional is tasked with overseeing inpatient general internal medicine services, ensuring high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct weekend rounds, facilitate patient transfers, and manage communication with patients and healthcare providers.
- Perform various duties as assigned to support the respiratory care team.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in respiratory therapy within a hospital environment, including exposure to inpatient units, emergency departments, and intensive care units.
- Maintain current clinical skills and credentials through ongoing education and in-service programs, including a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
- Demonstrate proficiency in basic and advanced respiratory care techniques, including oxygen administration, aerosol therapy, and ventilator management.
- Assess patients' respiratory conditions through clinical data analysis, including blood gas results and imaging studies.
- Participate in emergency response situations, providing critical respiratory care during trauma and code calls.
- Transport and monitor patients in specialized areas, ensuring safety and compliance with protocols.
- Assist with advanced procedures such as endotracheal intubation and tracheotomy care.
- Support the development of weaning plans for patients on mechanical ventilation.
- Perform sputum mobilization techniques and arterial blood gas sampling, interpreting results accurately.
- Maintain and troubleshoot respiratory equipment, ensuring operational readiness.
- Frequent activities include stooping, crouching, reaching, and performing fine motor tasks.
- Occasional activities may involve climbing and color vision.
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
- Capable of carrying light respiratory therapy instruments and supplies.
- Possess a full, current, and unrestricted license or certification in a relevant state or territory.
- Completion of Information Security and Privacy Policy training is mandatory for all personnel with access to personal health information.
- Rotating shifts as required for coverage in assigned areas, including federal holidays.
- Expected to work 44 hours per week.
