Position Overview

The Department of Genetics is in search of a Computational Biologist to contribute to groundbreaking research aimed at elucidating the regulatory networks of the human genome. This role is pivotal in uncovering genetic factors associated with cardiovascular diseases.

Lab Insights

The Engreitz Laboratory focuses on understanding DNA regulatory elements within the human genome, which are critical in identifying genetic risk variants linked to both common and rare diseases. Our innovative methodologies aim to map these complex regulatory connections, integrating experimental and computational genomics, biochemistry, and human genetics.

Role Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement functional genomics strategies that illuminate gene regulation and its implications for heart disease.
  • Design and execute robust algorithms and analytical tools for biological data interpretation, particularly in high-throughput functional genomics.
  • Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies and methodologies to enhance research capabilities.
  • Create comprehensive visual representations and presentations of research findings.
  • Contribute to the development of protocols, publications, and intellectual property.
  • Maintain and organize computational resources and infrastructure.
Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in computational biology, computer science, or a related field.
  • Experience in collaborative software development and relevant platforms.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and software engineering, particularly in high-throughput sequencing applications.
  • A strong enthusiasm for utilizing computational techniques to explore gene regulation and human disease mechanisms.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • A creative, organized, and motivated approach to teamwork.
Knowledge and Skills

Required knowledge includes:

  • Familiarity with Unix, programming, and data analysis tools (e.g., Python, R).
  • Experience with analytical software and MS Office applications.
  • Strong writing and analytical capabilities.
  • The ability to effectively prioritize tasks and manage workload.
