Job Overview

The Field Project Technician for Engine Testing plays a crucial role in managing field test programs related to engine evaluations with minimal oversight. This position involves the deployment of various testing apparatus to gather emissions sampling data from industrial combustion engines. The primary equipment utilized includes Fourier-transform infrared spectrometers (FTIR). Furthermore, this role acts as the company's representative in the field, engaging with clients and regulatory authorities.

Key Responsibilities
  • This role reports directly to the Engine Testing Manager and executes assigned tasks efficiently.
  • Conducts independent on-site field testing, demonstrating expertise in sampling methodologies through established standard operating procedures.
  • Adheres to current standards, codes, and protocols regarding the safe and effective operation of equipment, maintenance programs, and other necessary policies.
  • Upholds the company's professional image while interacting with clients and in office settings.
  • Provides training to new Engine Testers on field procedures, testing methods, and calibration processes, in alignment with Operations Excellence guidelines.
  • Safety and Compliance:
  • Follows the Health and Safety Program Manual diligently.
  • Complies with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations as trained.
  • Exhibits a commitment to safe working practices in the field.
  • Ensures all team members adhere to safety protocols during field operations.
  • Ensures that project drivers meet all DOT requirements, including proper use of Electronic Logging Devices (ELD).
  • Field Duties:
    • Prepares the testing team for the assigned scope of work prior to mobilization.
    • Prepares and maintains all necessary equipment before deployment.
    • Coordinates with the Engine Testing Manager for a pre-job briefing.
    • Communicates with clients prior to mobilization to confirm testing schedules and expected arrival times.
    • Acts as the company's in-field liaison with clients and regulatory personnel.
    • Ensures accurate data collection and uploads data to the secure AST server daily.
    • Possesses a working knowledge of applicable testing methods for industrial combustion engine evaluations.
    • Completes the Daily Activities Summary (DAS) each day and ensures field team hours are recorded accurately.
    • Updates project information in ATLAS, including data submission timelines.
    • Conducts a cyclonic flow traverse for all projects requiring velocity or flow rate measurements prior to testing.
  • Exhibits strong verbal communication skills with both internal teams and external clients and regulators.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and collaborates effectively within teams.
  • Demonstrates a desire for personal growth and advancement into leadership roles.

Compensation is determined based on candidate experience, qualifications, market conditions, and business considerations. The approximate pay range for this position is $21-$25 per hour, depending on specific industry experience and location.
