The Material Technician role encompasses essential responsibilities related to the evaluation and maintenance of construction materials and processes. This position involves performing routine transportation operations and maintenance support tasks, including roadway upkeep, traffic management, and assisting the public during critical situations.

In this capacity, the technician will conduct standard material assessments and oversee manufacturing process inspections within laboratories, production facilities, or at supply points. The role necessitates interaction with private sector entities, and employees at this level are expected to adhere to established practices with minimal supervision.



Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization within the laboratory environment.
  • Evaluate barricades to ensure they meet established compliance standards.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing, and minor repairs on equipment, while completing necessary documentation such as time-keeping and inventory forms.
  • Keep accurate records of construction projects and manage related paperwork efficiently.
  • Assist in evaluating maintenance contract construction techniques and quality to ensure adherence to plans and specifications for roadways, bridges, traffic signals, and associated highway structures.
  • Notify plant personnel regarding material or production issues and reject any substandard materials.
  • Inspect materials at supply points to confirm compliance with departmental specifications.
  • Perform routine material tests and inspect manufacturing processes and equipment to ensure conformity with standards; as needed, transport material samples.
  • Prepare and organize correspondence, reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Compile inspection or test reports accurately.
  • Receive training in material specifications and inspection methodologies.
  • Document test data and perform calculations to convert raw data into specific measurement units.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
