Bloomsbury Children's Books is in search of a Public Relations Intern for the upcoming term. This role is based in Midtown/Herald Square and involves working with celebrated authors in the realm of children's literature, including picture books, middle grade, and young adult genres.

Position Summary

We are looking for a motivated, organized, and creative individual who has a passion for literature to support our Publicity team as a Public Relations Intern for 2-3 days each week. The intern will collaborate with the Children's Publicity Department on a diverse range of both fiction and non-fiction titles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist publicists in crafting press materials and pitch letters.
  • Conduct research on media contacts, reviewers, book influencers, and other key figures in the publishing industry.
  • Prepare for and participate in meetings with internal teams and external media contacts.
  • Support publicists with the distribution of review copies and track media coverage.
  • Maintain office operations, including book orders and publicity database management.
  • Oversee online publicity efforts, including maintaining reviewer lists and managing requests from NetGalley.
  • Monitor the Publicity inbox for incoming correspondence.
  • Engage in additional publicity projects as opportunities arise.

Qualifications

  • A genuine love for books is essential.
  • A keen interest in pursuing a career in publishing.
  • A desire to learn about publicity and the publishing industry.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented, well-organized, and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Currently pursuing a 4-year degree or equivalent; seniors preferred, or a working professional looking to transition into the industry.

Commitment

The internship requires a commitment of 2-3 days per week, with a schedule to be coordinated with your supervisor.

This position offers compensation at a rate of $18.00 per hour and is eligible for college credit.
