Position Overview
We are looking for a Senior Electrical Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to join our team of experts in electrical, instrumentation, and controls engineering. As a result of our ongoing growth, we are in need of skilled Field Engineers who possess field experience and a robust understanding of industrial processes within the electrical, instrumentation, and control disciplines. Shermco is recognized as a leading turnkey systems integration firm.

This role requires a multi-disciplinary skill set with a focus on electrical, instrumentation, and controls trades. The ideal candidate will have a foundational knowledge of electrical infrastructure (low & medium voltage), manufacturing instrumentation, and process control systems (PLC & DCS). Experience in the Food & Beverage and Agricultural sectors is essential. This position offers significant opportunities for both technical and professional advancement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze, interpret, and comprehend Electrical Schematics, Single-lines, Instrument Specification Sheets, Instrument Process Applications, P&ID's, loop drawings, installation details, layout drawings, and other documentation typically associated with construction projects.
  • Develop and/or collaborate on client Construction Bid Packages, including detailed scopes of work, drawings, cable schedules, and location plans.
  • Understand and interpret construction project specifications, cable schedules, and material take-offs.
  • Facilitate coordination with customers, subcontractors, technical staff, and management to support pre-bid meetings, site visits, and scope discussions for new work packages.
  • Assist in material take-offs, generate construction estimates, and develop proposals.
  • Ensure effective communication between customers and subcontractors to identify and agree on all aspects of installation and testing procedures.
  • Serve as a liaison and technical resource for customers, field personnel, and subcontractors as necessary.
  • Provide technical expertise for troubleshooting and resolving issues within the electrical, instrumentation, and control domains.
  • Oversee the repair, testing, and installation of EI&C panels and network equipment.
  • Manage mechanical and electrical installations of panels and instrumentation.
  • Coordinate the commissioning of EI&C assets and panels as required by clients.
  • Ensure compliance with Electrical Permits.
  • Champion Electrical Safety Excellence.
  • Coordinate field commissioning activities for Electrical & Instrumentation as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience preferred.
  • A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in industrial electrical, instrumentation, and controls.
  • Proven experience in the Food & Beverage and Agricultural Industries.
  • Familiarity with low and medium voltage controls.
  • Comprehensive understanding of industrial construction project drawings and specifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Stay updated on current communication technologies and equipment, including RF, Fiber, and Copper networking.
  • Journeyman electrical license.
  • Strong electrical understanding of motor controls, control loops, pneumatic/hydraulic theory, relay logic, and analog signal loop theory.
  • Experience with PLC, DCS / SCADA software is advantageous.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Team-oriented, adaptable, and willing to assist in other technical areas.
  • Basic understanding of field instruments, valves, and control panels.
  • Proficient with hand and power tools.
Requirements:
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test and periodic random drug tests.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and stand for extended periods.
  • Must pass a fit-for-duty physical exam when required.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment criminal background check.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a good driving record.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without the need for employer-sponsored visa (work permit).
  • Must be able to fluently read, write, and speak English.
  • Willingness to travel; minimum 50% travel required.
