Job Overview

We are seeking a knowledgeable professional in food labeling regulations to oversee the evaluation and authorization of corporate brand labels, ensuring adherence to nutritional, health, and regulatory standards. This role involves guiding the labeling of consumer products in compliance with nutritional and other regulatory mandates. The ideal candidate will prioritize safety, quality, and reliability while embodying our core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and authorize consumer packaging designs for compliance with nutritional and regulatory standards, including font size, text arrangement, product naming, claims, and panel information.
  • Evaluate claims on packaging, promotional materials, and marketing brochures for accuracy and compliance.
  • Review peer-reviewed studies to validate health and structure/function claims.
  • Stay informed about regulatory and technological advancements that impact labeling laws in the food sector by maintaining professional relationships with industry peers, trade organizations, and regulatory bodies.
  • Convey technical labeling requirements to Quality Assurance/Product Development teams, Packaging managers, Corporate Brands category managers, Merchandising teams, and design firms.
  • Offer technical assistance on various regulatory compliance matters, including menu labeling and nutrition labeling.
  • Travel as necessary for training purposes.
  • Adhere to established protocols, policies, and practices to ensure the production of safe, quality food that meets regulatory and company standards.
  • Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the SQF 2000 Systems.
  • Uphold the Kroger Manufacturing Food Safety and Quality Principles.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Qualifications

Minimum
  • Bachelor's degree in food science, food safety, regulatory compliance, or a related discipline.
  • At least 2 years of experience in consumer package label compliance, food science, product development, or food quality assurance.
  • Strong understanding of FDA/USDA labeling regulations and federal register postings.
  • Effective communication skills tailored for non-regulatory audiences.
Desired
  • Experience with food labeling laws and regulations.
  • Background as a food plant quality assurance manager.
  • Experience as a product development technologist.
  • Proven track record in developing training programs for labeling consumer packages.
  • Demonstrated excellence in project planning and execution, optimizing the label approval process.
  • Exceptional presentation skills to communicate regulatory changes and their implications for the business and brand to leadership and partners.
