Overview:
The Senior Actuarial Leader is responsible for guiding and managing Pricing Strategies.
This role entails applying and ensuring the suitability of methodologies, foundational models, assumptions, actuarial insight, and compliance with Corporate Standards and CAS (Casualty Actuarial Society) principles.
The individual must effectively engage with Senior Leadership across all tiers and provide comprehensive updates. Strong leadership capabilities, innovative thinking, and excellent communication skills are essential. Additionally, this position involves overseeing and nurturing a team of 3 or more actuaries.
As team members will require expertise to conduct analyses, the Senior Leader will offer training and/or additional resources (both internal and external) as necessary.
To support team members aspiring to achieve CAS credentials or advance into management roles, the Senior Leader should provide necessary guidance and training.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent professional expertise in a specialized field.
- 10–12 years of progressively responsible experience in related positions.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office, SAS or SQL.
- In-depth understanding of insurance operations, accounting practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Thorough knowledge of the rate level indication process.
- Extensive experience conducting complex quantitative analyses for insurance entities or similar organizations, preferably with products akin to those offered by MAPFRE Insurance.
- Proficient in managing new and existing data sources, along with developing intricate processes from the ground up.
- Solid understanding of industry practices, standards, and concepts.
- Thorough knowledge of reinsurance and its implications for capital management and risk management.
- Ability to leverage these skills to enhance existing processes or innovate new methodologies.
Preferred:
- FCAS or ACAS Credential.
- 4+ years of experience leading a team of actuarial professionals.
Soft Skills:
- Aligns departmental objectives with the strategic goals of MAPFRE Insurance.
- Functions effectively as a team leader within the actuarial domain and as a key member (or leader, where applicable) of cross-functional teams.
- Makes informed decisions across a variety of scenarios while defining the decision-making authority for team members.
- Interprets guidelines and procedures, applying sound judgment and discretion.
- Proactively identifies existing or emerging issues with analysis processes and employs project management skills to address these challenges.
- Evaluates departmental performance (and personal performance) with an open perspective amidst organizational changes.
- Utilizes cost/benefit analysis to assess the appropriateness of changes.
- Provides training and mentorship to less experienced staff, leading them in collaborative projects.
- Manages relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Oversees process modifications with internal and external partners.
- Effectively communicates and negotiates with senior management and external parties.
- Takes an active interest in the career development of team members.
