Job Purpose:
The Senior Processing Manager is tasked with supervising our continuous processing operations. This position encompasses leadership over the supervisory team and processing operators engaged in kitting, batching, receiving, filtration, and pasteurization. This role is pivotal in driving operational excellence through the establishment of process standards and encouraging innovative thinking while fostering a decentralized command culture. A strong emphasis on continuous improvement to address root causes rather than merely fixing issues is essential. This position is crucial for ensuring the efficient flow of dairy products throughout the facility while cultivating a modern and collaborative work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the training and development of all staff members.
- Promote a culture centered on minimizing losses through standardization and loss prevention.
- Lead and manage operations within the processing department, overseeing strategic initiatives and projects.
- Accountable for the performance of the processing department, establishing and disseminating Key Performance Indicators.
- Collaborate daily with the dairy planner and scheduling manager to review inventories and production plans, aligning schedule demands with staff and product movement.
- Champion key capital and commercialization projects pertinent to the processing department.
- Evaluate all nonconforming products or ingredients in conjunction with the Quality Assurance Manager.
- Monitor departmental operations during shifts, ensuring compliance with GMPs, sanitation, and safety protocols.
- Work closely with the Maintenance Manager to maintain equipment in optimal condition.
- Develop and manage the department's budget in line with financial objectives.
- Supervise team members in a 24/7 operational environment.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Essential:
- At least 5 years of experience in aseptic or ESL manufacturing, preferably within the dairy sector.
- A proactive individual motivated by continuous improvement.
Preferred:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Food Science, or Dairy Science, with a solid understanding of process flow and fluid mass balance.
- Familiarity with regulatory food standards, including PMO, PCQI, and FSMA.
- Experience working with FDA/USDA and other regulatory bodies.
- Experience in a 24/7 operational setting, collaborating with upstream (Producers) and downstream (Packaging and Supply Chain) partners.
- A mindset focused on continuous improvement, including root cause analysis and Lean principles.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities while meeting production schedules.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemistry and CIP/COP protocols.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, along with excellent organizational abilities.
- Proven success in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
- Capability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to reach and bend as necessary.
- Exposure to various hazards, including machinery and confined spaces.
- Adaptability to specific atmospheric conditions.
Food Safety Responsibilities:
- Maintain critical control points, aseptic requirements, and regulatory standards consistently.
- Implement corrective actions following nonconformance or product deviations.
- Accountable for third-party Food Safety and GMP audits and internal Quality and Food Safety programs.
- Fulfill all duties necessary to meet Company, Customer, and Government standards.
- Proactively prevent occurrences of nonconformities related to Food Safety and product quality.
- Identify and document any issues concerning Food Safety and quality of ingredients and processes.
Position Location: On-site
Reports To: Director of Operations
Travel Requirements: Initial travel of 50%, reducing to less than 10%
