HVAC Model Fabrication Specialist

Position Overview:

The Model Maker is an integral part of the Engineering Lab team within the Unitary Products Group (UPG) at Johnson Controls. This division focuses on the design, testing, manufacturing, and assembly of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems for both light commercial and residential applications. The role is situated in a climate-controlled laboratory environment dedicated to HVAC innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Construct sheet metal and copper components in accordance with engineering specifications.
  • Operate and maintain various fabrication machinery, including Press Brake and Amada equipment.
  • Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics accurately.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks to ensure all fabricated parts meet established standards.
  • Execute repairs and modifications on existing components as necessary.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, perform audits, and maintain an organized workspace.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, complemented by vocational training in Sheet Metal Fabrication.
  • Proven expertise in sheet metal fabrication, ideally within the HVAC sector or related fields.
  • Skilled in the use of hand tools and fabrication machinery, with the ability to operate a forklift.
  • Capable of lifting equipment and materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Proficient in MS Office and general computer applications.
  • Adept at reading and interpreting technical documentation.
  • Strong collaboration and communication abilities.
  • Competent in performing basic mathematical calculations, including percentages and geometric computations.
