Position Overview:

The Model Maker is an integral part of the Engineering Lab team within the Unitary Products Group (UPG) at Johnson Controls. This division is responsible for the design, testing, manufacturing, and assembly of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems tailored for light commercial and residential applications. The role is situated in a climate-controlled laboratory environment, focusing on operational enhancements and product evaluations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fabricate components from sheet metal and copper according to engineering specifications.
  • Operate and maintain various fabrication machinery, including Press Brake and Amada.
  • Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics accurately.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
  • Perform necessary repairs and modifications on existing components.
  • Adhere to established safety protocols, conduct audits, and maintain a tidy workspace.
  • Execute additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, complemented by vocational training in Sheet Metal Fabrication.
  • Proven experience and knowledge in sheet metal fabrication, ideally within the HVAC sector or related fields.
  • Skilled in the use of hand tools and fabrication equipment, with the ability to operate a forklift.
  • Capable of lifting items such as equipment, compressors, and sheet metal parts weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Proficient in MS Office and general computer applications.
  • Adept at reading and interpreting technical documentation.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills within a team environment.
  • Competent in performing basic mathematical calculations, including percentages and geometric computations.
