Job Overview:

The Lead Scientist in Raw Material Innovation plays a pivotal role in collaborating with cross-functional teams, including Commercial Buyers, Suppliers, and Product Development, to discover new ingredient possibilities essential for achieving targeted product designs. This position is accountable for steering these ingredients through the qualification and approval stages, ensuring comprehensive evaluations concerning any potential risks to animal welfare or product integrity. Additionally, the role involves formulating ingredient Specifications that detail the critical attributes necessary for those Specifications.

Key Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Animal Nutrition, Food Science, Food Technology, or a related field
  • 0-3 years of experience in the food sector, particularly in research and development
  • Familiarity with the functionality and quality of food ingredients, especially animal proteins
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced Degree in Animal Nutrition, Food Science, Food Technology, or a related technical discipline
Main Responsibilities:
  • Engaging with industry suppliers and commercial buyers to pinpoint ingredients that fulfill product design requirements
  • Identifying new ingredient opportunities that contribute to cost efficiency while preserving or enhancing product quality
  • Evaluating new ingredients for known risks and ensuring appropriate controls are in place to mitigate those risks
  • Applying expertise related to the raw material ingredient portfolio across all relevant applications and serving as a key technical resource within the organization
  • Utilizing ingredient knowledge to help shape strategy and discover methods to improve key product features and potential savings
  • Overseeing and managing existing ingredients in our portfolio to guarantee the production of high-quality, nutritious products
  • Ensuring alignment of new ingredient opportunities with relevant stakeholders within the R&D division
  • Facilitating alignment and management of external stakeholders
  • Influencing and/or developing technical strategies and best practices
  • Responsible for drafting ingredient Specifications
