Senior Materials and Processes Engineer - Adhesives and Bonding Expertise

Key Skills:

This role demands a comprehensive grasp of adhesive chemistry, bonding techniques, and surface preparation, alongside a solid understanding of material and process specifications tailored for aviation applications and relevant certification standards. Experience with an ODA or direct interaction with regulatory bodies is advantageous.

Core Responsibilities:
1. Proven track record in the development, qualification, and certification of adhesives for aircraft interior components, encompassing both structural and non-structural applications.
2. Skilled in the creation and maintenance of specifications and processing guidelines for aircraft interior materials.
3. Proficient in utilizing analytical instruments (FTIR, TGA, DSC, DMA) for adhesive characterization, with the ability to interpret and analyze test results effectively.
4. Capable of addressing adhesive-related challenges promptly and efficiently.
5. Demonstrated experience collaborating with suppliers on new adhesive innovations.
6. Extensive knowledge of adhesives, sealants, and tapes applicable to aircraft interiors.
7. Familiarity with CMH-17 procedures, capable of performing statistical analyses of testing data and generating design allowables for aircraft interior materials.

Communication Skills:
Strong proficiency in both technical writing and reading is essential.

Educational and Experience Requirements:
A Bachelor's Degree in engineering or a related technical field is required, with an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the role. A minimum of 10 years in a specific technical discipline or 15 years of broad engineering experience across multiple disciplines is expected. Experience credit for advanced degrees is limited to 2 years for a Master's and 4 years for a PhD in relevant fields.

Position Objective:
To guide the successful execution of significant engineering projects or to conceptualize research in areas of substantial scope and complexity that support the development and production of Gulfstream products and services.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:
  1. Identifies and applies suitable methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to resolve intricate engineering challenges.
  2. Recognized as an authority in the field, frequently consulted by peers and others.
  3. Proactively anticipates and resolves complex issues in innovative and effective manners, establishing standards and guidelines for various engineering activities.
  4. Balances technical product requirements with cost and schedule considerations in problem-solving approaches.
  5. Operates with minimal supervision; work is evaluated from a long-term perspective for desired outcomes.
  6. Exercises discretion in defining technical objectives of assignments, making authoritative decisions and recommendations.

Additional Functions:
  1. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of advancements in the specialty field and related aircraft domains to propose innovations that enhance product quality and effectiveness.
Other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements:
  1. Preferred advanced degree in engineering or a related discipline.
  2. The level of technical skill and abilities appropriate for this position will be determined by each discipline.
