About the Role

The Patient Access Representative is a vital member of the Sentara team, responsible for ensuring a seamless and efficient patient registration process. This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Verify patient identity and select the correct patient record
  • Review schedules and physician orders to register patients for the appropriate service
  • Scan important documents, such as insurance cards and ID's, and verify and enter patient demographic and insurance information into the electronic health record
  • Explain and complete complex regulatory and compliance documents, adhering to all applicable privacy and compliance standards
  • Collect co-payments, deposits, and outstanding balances, and perform transactions securely
  • Provide exceptional customer service, greeting patients and families, answering questions, and ensuring patients arrive at the correct service area at the right time

Requirements

  • Two years of customer service and/or data entry experience required
  • Previous healthcare experience a plus
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree can be considered in lieu of two years of experience
  • Knowledge of third-party payers, ICD-9/CPT coding, and medical terminology preferred
  • Interpersonal skills necessary for successful communication with patients and staff
