Job Summary

This role is responsible for providing high-quality nutrition care to pediatric patients, working closely with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure integrated and compatible care. The successful candidate will apply the Nutrition Care Process to assess, diagnose, and treat patients, using evidence-based practice protocols and guidelines to inform their decisions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments using anthropometric, medical/clinical, biochemical, radiologic, diet history, and physical examination data.
  • Evaluate the need for and appropriateness of enteral and/or parenteral nutrition support, recommending suitable modes of feeding.
  • Provide nutrition and/or nutrition support therapy education to individuals, patients, clients, caregivers, and/or groups as appropriate.
  • Serve as a mentor and/or resource to other practitioners, including dietitians at lower levels.
  • Participate in periodic review of enteral and parenteral nutrition formularies, promoting cost-effective selections.
  • Actively participate in a formal work team or research team, leading as needed.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in dietetics, foods and nutrition, or a related field, and completion of a didactic program in dietetics and supervised practice program approved by the Accreditation Council for Education and Dietetics. A minimum of five years of directly related work experience, including two years in pediatric-specific settings, is required. The candidate must also hold a valid credential as a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist (RD) issued by the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics' Commission on Dietetic Registration, and obtain specialty certification in one of the specified areas within one year of appointment to level III.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of the Nutrition Care Process, comprehensive knowledge and application of nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy in pediatric patients, and general knowledge of electronic medical record, nutrient analysis, word processing, and spreadsheet software. They will also possess excellent counseling skills, the ability to communicate effectively in written, verbal, and electronic form, and function independently on assigned patient care units and/or outpatient clinics.
