Position Overview:

We are seeking a qualified candidate who is a US Person (US Permanent resident or US Citizen) for a hybrid role that requires on-site presence approximately 20% of the time.

The ideal candidate should be located in Southern California and be available for meetings at our facility with minimal notice. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.

This is a full-time direct employment opportunity with a W2 status that includes comprehensive benefits.

The salary range for this position is between $79,037 and $112,035, plus bonuses and benefits. This range is based on various factors including role, level, and location.

Key Responsibilities:

The Mechanical Engineer II will be an integral part of a design team dedicated to the advancement of next-generation UAV systems and their subsystems. Responsibilities will encompass all stages of design, from initial concepts to detailed designs, including the assembly and testing of these systems. Specific tasks include:

  • Designing structural components, electro-mechanical systems, payload mechanisms, ground support equipment, launch systems, and flight control actuator integration.
  • Conducting thermal analysis and developing prototype hardware along with tooling and fixtures.
  • Creating manufacturing drawings and bills of materials adhering to industry drafting standards.
  • Supporting design reviews and assisting project managers in planning and scheduling engineering tasks.
  • Collaborating with manufacturing and suppliers to facilitate the production of components and assemblies.
  • Addressing moderate scope problems that require analysis of various factors.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in designing complex mechanical systems with a proven transition to hardware.
  • Experience in designing various parts including machined, composite, plastic injection molded, sheet metal, wire assemblies, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Hands-on experience in building or prototyping lightweight miniature robotic systems or similar technologies.
  • Experience in designing electro-mechanical systems with thermodynamic considerations.
  • Proficiency in mechanical engineering processes and design/analysis tools.
  • Experience in creating engineering drawings compliant with ASME Y14.100 and Y14.5 standards.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks and familiar with office software such as MS Office.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with SolidWorks EPDM.
  • Background in designing tooling or test equipment.
  • Ability to solve basic structural dynamics problems.
  • Understanding of engineering configuration management processes and material properties.
  • Knowledge of environmental testing, including shock and vibration.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with a small team.
  • Demonstrates initiative and a commitment to achieving goals.
  • Takes ownership of work and is dedicated to continuous improvement.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in both office and production environments.
  • Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods, and use hands and fingers for computer and telephone operations.
