Position Overview

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will take charge of the mechanical dimensions of various machinery and tooling initiatives. These projects can range from small-scale research and development efforts to extensive production machinery. The engineer will collaborate with clients to establish the requirements and specifications for their projects. Typically, these projects will involve multiple disciplines, and the engineer will partner with other team members to provide a cohesive and effective solution.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Designing systems, mechanisms, and components for tailored automated machinery and tools
  • Integrating both off-the-shelf and custom robotics, actuation, sensors, and vision systems
  • Ensuring adherence to project budgets and timelines while coordinating with stakeholders
  • Creating, reviewing, and approving CAD drawings
  • Providing technical guidance to fellow Mechanical Design Engineers
  • Constructing and evaluating prototypes
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams on control systems and software integration
  • Managing relationships with external suppliers
  • Engaging with clients to refine and align project requirements
  • Assisting with equipment deployment at client locations as necessary

Essential Qualifications:

  • Proven expertise and a successful history in automation and/or machine design
  • Ability to size and specify actuators, sensors, vision systems, and other automation components
  • Extensive experience with SolidWorks or similar CAD software
  • Proficient in engineering drawings and tolerances
  • Knowledge of GD&T, Y14.5M-2009 standards
  • Comprehensive understanding of materials and fabrication processes (machining, welding, etc.)
  • Familiarity with control systems and software principles
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A minimum of 3 years in a mechanical design capacity within an industrial automation and/or machine building context

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with pneumatic systems and components
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in an engineering discipline
  • 6+ years in a mechanical design role within industrial automation and/or machine building
  • Understanding of CE, NFPA 79, and SEMI S8 compliance standards
  • Experience in tooling design
  • Background in troubleshooting automated systems
