Position: Mechanical Engineering Specialist

Location: Simi Valley, CA

The Mechanical Engineering Specialist is tasked with the design, configuration, testing, and assessment of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems or devices. This role involves preparing design specifications, conducting analyses, and providing recommendations for approval. The specialist will evaluate mechanical requirements to ascertain the feasibility of designs within established time and budget constraints. Additionally, the role includes investigating solutions to product or process challenges and consolidating the results of mechanical design components for assigned projects.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting investigations related to the creation or modification of material, component, or process specifications.
  • Engaging in product development activities, including layout design and the interpretation of customer specifications and documentation requirements.
  • Managing projects or processes with general oversight and collaborating with contacts both within and outside the department to clarify operational processes, practices, and procedures.
  • Recommending enhancements to systems and processes while striving to meet operational targets for specific programs and projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate under general supervision.
  • Possibly oversee entire projects or processes within the job area.
  • May manage projects at this level, including delegating tasks and reviewing the work of others.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external contacts, including customers and vendors.
  • Clarify and interpret processes and procedures to colleagues and external parties.
  • Work on moderate enhancements or improvements to systems and processes to address issues or enhance job area effectiveness.
  • Problem-solving opportunities may require a broader understanding of issues but are generally not complex.
  • Contribute to achieving operational targets with a moderate impact on departmental outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Proficient knowledge of the job area, with practical project management experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or a Graduate Degree with at least 2 years of related experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Demonstrated CAD proficiency, particularly in SolidWorks/PDM.
  • Familiarity with ASME Y14.5M-1994 and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards.
  • Ability to obtain a future Security Clearance is essential; U.S. citizenship is required.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with ANSYS Mechanical, SolidWorks Flow, and SolidWorks Simulation is preferred.
  • CAD experience in Creo and AutoCAD is advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% may be necessary.

In compliance with pay transparency regulations, the salary range for this position in California is $81,500-151,500. This range is not a guarantee of compensation, as the final offer may vary based on factors such as experience and location.
