Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse III-Acute Care to join our team at the Texas Health & Human Services Commission. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide exceptional care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who reside in our State Supported Living Centers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide complex nursing care to individuals with acute medical needs, including tracheostomy care, gastrostomy/jejunostomy care, wound care, and breathing treatments.
  • Collect specimens for laboratory examination and conduct appropriate screening tests as requested by lab personnel.
  • Administer medications, immunizations, and treatments, and observe patients for unusual symptoms and reactions.
  • Make rounds and/or home visits as needed, and work in other locations at the SSLC as needed.
  • Monitor individuals' weight, diet, feedings, and vital signs, and monitor for signs and symptoms of illness.
Requirements
  • Licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas (or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact).
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • At least one (1) year experience as a practicing registered nurse, with two (2) years preferred.
  • Previous experience working with Individuals with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities (IDD) is preferred.
