Fort Lee, New Jersey, United States Xscape Photonics Inc Full time

Position Summary: Xscape Photonics Inc is seeking a skilled mechanical engineer specializing in photonics and electronics packaging. The primary responsibility of this role is to design and develop integrated packaging solutions for both photonic and electronic components. You will be tasked with ensuring the seamless integration of these components into larger systems while safeguarding their functionality, protection, and thermal management.

Core Responsibilities:

1. Packaging Design: Create and refine packaging solutions for photonic and electronic components, taking into account thermal management, mechanical integrity, electrical connectivity, and optical alignment.

2. Thermal Solutions: Innovate thermal management strategies to address heat generated by electronic components and photonic devices, utilizing heat sinks, thermal vias, and cooling systems.

3. Material Selection: Identify suitable materials for packaging components, focusing on attributes such as thermal conductivity, thermal expansion, electrical insulation, and environmental durability.

4. Environmental Protection: Engineer hermetic or environmentally sealed packages to shield components from dust, moisture, and other harmful elements.

5. Mechanical Integration: Develop mechanical interfaces for the incorporation of components into larger systems, ensuring precise alignment, structural integrity, and compatibility with other mechanical elements using CAD tools like SolidWorks and AutoCAD.

6. Thermal and Stress Evaluation: Conduct advanced thermal analysis using simulation software (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL, or SolidWorks Simulation) to model and predict heat transfer, conduction, convection, and radiation in mechanical systems.

7. Prototyping and Validation: Construct and evaluate prototypes to confirm thermal and mechanical performance, analyzing experimental data and implementing design enhancements based on findings.

8. Quality Assurance: Establish quality control protocols to ensure that packaging solutions meet defined performance criteria and reliability standards.

9. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain thorough documentation of design specifications, simulation outcomes, test results, and performance metrics. Prepare detailed technical reports and presentations.

10. Collaborative Efforts: Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including electrical engineers, optical/photonics engineers, and process engineers, to develop comprehensive solutions for photonic and electronic packaging.

11. Compliance with Standards: Ensure that packaging solutions comply with industry standards and relevant regulatory requirements, particularly in sectors such as telecommunications, medical devices, and data communication.

12. Research and Development: Stay informed about the latest advancements in photonics, electronics, and packaging technologies. Contribute to R&D initiatives aimed at advancing the field and creating innovative packaging solutions.

13. Project Leadership: Oversee engineering projects related to photonic and electronic packaging, including establishing timelines, budgets, and milestones to guarantee successful project execution.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for packaging design and mechanical system integration.
  • In-depth understanding of thermal management principles, material properties, and electrical and optical integration.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor fabrication processes, cleanroom practices, and photonic device technology.
  • Strong analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to adapt to emerging technologies and industry trends in photonic and electronic packaging.

Compensation: Competitive cash and stock compensation, commensurate with education and experience. Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance provided.
