Position Summary: Xscape Photonics Inc is seeking a skilled mechanical engineer specializing in photonics and electronics packaging. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and developing integrated packaging solutions for both photonic and electronic components. This role involves ensuring the seamless integration of these components into larger systems while safeguarding their functionality, protection, and thermal management.

Primary Duties:

1. Packaging Development: Create and refine packaging designs for photonic and electronic components, taking into account thermal management, mechanical integrity, electrical connectivity, and optical precision.

2. Heat Management: Formulate thermal strategies to dissipate heat produced by electronic and photonic devices, utilizing heat sinks, thermal vias, and cooling systems.

3. Material Analysis: Select suitable materials for packaging, focusing on attributes such as thermal conductivity, thermal expansion, electrical insulation, and resistance to environmental factors.

4. Sealing Solutions: Engineer hermetic or environmentally sealed packages to shield components from contaminants like dust and moisture.

5. Mechanical Design: Develop mechanical interfaces for the integration of components into larger systems, ensuring precise alignment, structural integrity, and compatibility with other mechanical parts using CAD tools such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD.

6. Thermal and Structural Evaluation: Conduct advanced thermal and structural analysis using simulation software (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL, or SolidWorks Simulation) to model heat transfer and mechanical stresses.

7. Prototype Development: Construct and evaluate prototypes to confirm thermal and mechanical performance, analyzing data to inform design enhancements.

8. Quality Assurance: Implement quality assurance protocols to ensure packaging solutions meet established performance and reliability standards.

9. Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of design specifications, simulation outcomes, testing data, and performance metrics. Prepare technical reports and presentations as necessary.

10. Collaborative Efforts: Work alongside cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, optical/photonics engineers, and process engineers, to devise comprehensive solutions for photonic and electronic packaging.

11. Compliance Standards: Ensure packaging solutions comply with industry standards and relevant regulatory requirements, particularly in sectors such as telecommunications, medical devices, and data communication.

12. Research and Development: Stay informed about the latest advancements in photonics, electronics, and packaging technologies. Contribute to R&D initiatives aimed at advancing the field and innovating new packaging solutions.

13. Project Oversight: Oversee engineering projects related to photonic and electronic packaging, including timeline management, budgeting, and milestone tracking to ensure successful project delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for packaging design and mechanical integration.
  • Strong grasp of thermal management principles, material properties, and electrical and optical integration.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor fabrication processes, cleanroom practices, and photonic device technology.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork capabilities.
  • Willingness to adapt to emerging technologies and industry trends in photonic and electronic packaging.
