Position Overview

The Staff Accountant is responsible for delivering financial accounting services in alignment with organizational policies, client requirements, and legal standards.

Core Responsibilities
  • Facilitates month-end and year-end closing activities, including the preparation and entry of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, bank reconciliations, and revenue summaries.
  • Distributes monthly financial reports, investigates and resolves discrepancies in income statements, and addresses inquiries from branches.
  • Conducts audits of financial statements for external auditor review.
  • Contributes to the design, execution, and oversight of internal accounting systems and policies to ensure compliance with regulations and reporting obligations.
  • Executes accrual accounting tasks, including the preparation and analysis of journal entries and financial statements.
  • Prepares financial statements and schedules for auditors and various management reports.
  • Acts as the primary contact for inquiries, issues, and exceptions related to account reconciliations and financial reporting.
  • Monitors assigned accounts to ensure adequate funding; directs cash transfers as necessary.
  • Files 941 and 945 forms and ensures timely submission of 990 and 5500 filings.
  • Performs additional duties as required.
Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in an accounting position.
  • Comprehensive understanding of standard accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficient in accounting software.
  • Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient computer skills, including intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a third-party administration, insurance, or health and welfare sector.
  • Prior experience in Taft-Hartley trust administration.
