Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Design and Construction: Oversee the technical design and construction of innovative prototypes for studio teaching, demonstrations, and exhibitions, working closely with the studio director to define requirements and objectives.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support to students working on projects, offering guidance and mentorship in areas such as project engineering, electronics, audio and visual media, mechanical design, and shop tool usage.
  • Instruction and Training: Develop and deliver technical instruction to students, teaching them project engineering, electronics, audio and visual media, mechanical design, and shop tool usage through informal learning environments or one-on-one coaching.
  • Studio Operations: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the studio, including managing materials and equipment inventory, restocking, resourcing, and purchasing, as well as setting up accounts with vendors and managing receipts and accounting reports with the Museum's financial office.
  • Facilities Management: Run and maintain the studio work areas, including the teaching space, electronics area, shop, and gallery, ensuring that all areas are well-maintained and equipped for optimal use.
  • Event Support: Support teaching and events, running media for presentations, constructing properties for demonstrations, and assisting with demonstrations and workshops.
  • Communication and Documentation: Support studio communications by producing image and video files, updating the Museum website, and creating exhibit and program announcements.
  • Project Management: Manage and use the studio online system for studio operations, communications, and project documentation.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Experience: Three years of experience in a museum or related setting, with demonstrated technical skills in areas such as physical construction, gallery installation, lighting, and audio and visual media.
  • Skills: Experience in art, design, and/or engineering project practices, as well as experience with fabrication and electronics tools, electronic prototyping, and open-source software.
  • Instructional Experience: Instructional experience, with the ability to communicate effectively and support students' technical learning and project execution within the studio.
