Position Overview

The Commercial Credit Analyst plays a crucial role in evaluating the quantitative and qualitative aspects of applicants' requests for business loans. The individual will analyze the character, capacity, capital, collateral, and conditions associated with loan applications, ultimately preparing comprehensive credit proposal packages that recommend suitable products and loan structures to mitigate credit risk.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough assessments of customer financial situations.
  • Support the loan package process from underwriting to final approval and transition to the closing department.
  • Provide informed credit recommendations based on analytical findings.
  • Assist relationship managers in preparing for loan committee discussions.
  • Reduce risk by establishing appropriate credit terms and conditions.
  • Evaluate payment behaviors of customers who are behind on payments and suggest necessary actions.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service while fostering relationships with internal and external stakeholders, vendors, and centers of influence.
  • Engage in departmental projects and contribute actively to cross-functional teams aimed at enhancing quality, processes, and initiatives.
  • Collaborate effectively with members of credit administration and other bank departments.
  • Draft loan write-ups for new loans and renewals.
  • Request necessary reports such as Credit Bureau reports, appraisals, environmental assessments, and D&B reports.
  • Prepare memos regarding changes in approvals and other relevant matters.
  • Draft commitment letters for newly sanctioned loans.
  • Mentor junior credit analysts.

  • Engage in projects focused on process enhancements.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Attention to detail and thoroughness are essential in completing job responsibilities.
  • Ability to analyze complex information logically.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience in credit administration.
  • Five to eight years of experience in a commercial loan department within a financial institution.
Licenses and Certifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Intermediate understanding of credit underwriting principles.
  • Basic knowledge of accounting, finance, and economic concepts.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • High-level reasoning skills, capable of defining problems, gathering data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret financial statements, collateral, cash flow, projections, personal financial statements, tax returns, and various balance sheet and income statement ratios.
  • Competence in performing calculations involving discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages, as well as applying basic algebra concepts.
  • Ability to read and interpret legal documents, governmental regulations, and professional publications.
  • Capable of effectively presenting information and responding to inquiries from diverse groups, including managers, employees, vendors, and the public.
  • Skilled in writing reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods, up to 75% of work hours.
  • Capability to use hands for grasping, handling, or feeling.
  • Proficient in using a computer keyboard and system for data entry and information processing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through speaking, hearing, and seeing.
  • Competence in using office equipment such as computers, telephones, copiers, and fax machines.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. occasionally.
Working Environment
  • Typical office environment with moderate noise from office equipment and personnel.
