The Senior Vice President of Commercial Lending is tasked with leading and managing all facets of commercial lending operations within the credit union. This role encompasses the development, underwriting, and management of significant and intricate lending relationships, alongside the administration of all legal components associated with commercial credits. The Senior Vice President ensures the overall integrity of the commercial lending portfolio while achieving strategic objectives.
This position operates in a hybrid model, requiring on-site presence for three days each week.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Directs the daily functions of the commercial lending division.
2. Cultivates a motivating work atmosphere by providing continuous coaching and development to team members. Conducts regular individual meetings and team discussions, sharing relevant information from management sessions to enhance communication across the organization.
3. Formulates and executes the commercial lending strategy, annual objectives, and budget in collaboration with senior leadership, aligning with the credit union's financial aspirations and risk appetite.
4. Engages with current and potential commercial loan clients, collecting, reviewing, and analyzing necessary documentation for the approval process.
5. Meets with clients to explore loan options, credit standards, interest rates, and documentation in a manner that fosters business retention and growth, while making referrals to other departments as needed.
6. Negotiates and articulates credit terms, including rates, costs, loan structures, and collateral specifications.
7. Ensures that loan packages are accompanied by the requisite supporting documentation, including signatures, disclosures, credit authority, and all other necessary materials for each loan.
8. Oversees the collection of overdue payments and the management of delinquent commercial loans, identifying and addressing potential credit issues in collaboration with relevant parties.
9. Establishes and maintains policies and procedures for MBL/Commercial Loans, ensuring they remain current with regulatory, internal, or market changes.
10. Collaborates with the Loan Analyst to assess loan requests and guarantees that write-ups are accurately prepared for consideration by the Business Loan Committee.
11. Acts as the primary contact for the department during regulatory examinations and internal/external audits, addressing findings and recommendations.
12. Ensures timely analysis for annual and performance reviews of the MBL/Commercial loan portfolio, working with staff to guarantee property inspections are conducted as necessary.
13. Responsible for thorough analysis and follow-up on all matured loans.
14. Maintains communication with Retail/Branch Managers to oversee and coordinate the status of prospective and existing commercial clients.
15. Takes responsibility for establishing and nurturing effective and professional relationships with clients and industry professionals.
16. Engages in business development initiatives to attract new and existing clients for commercial loans and all credit union products and services.
17. Embodies the credit union's values of diversity, equity, and inclusion, fostering an inclusive work environment by valuing team members' perspectives and encouraging respectful communication.
18. Complies with all credit union policies and procedures, and is responsible for adherence to regulations including BSA, OFAC, and others as required.
Additional Responsibilities:
19. Prepares reports on commercial lending for management and the Board of Directors as necessary.
Supervisory Role:
The Assistant Vice President of Commercial Lending and the Commercial Analyst report directly to this position.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required. Formal training in Commercial Credit or demonstrated advanced expertise in financial analysis, commercial loan underwriting, and loan structuring is essential. A minimum of seven years of experience in commercial lending with a proven track record in business development is necessary. Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills are vital, along with excellent analytical abilities and a logical, systematic approach to problem-solving. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel is required. Flexibility and adaptability to change are important, as is the ability to travel as needed.
