Position Overview

The Commercial Credit Analyst is tasked with conducting both quantitative and qualitative evaluations of applicants seeking commercial financing. The individual will analyze the character, capacity, capital, collateral, and conditions surrounding loan applications, ultimately preparing comprehensive credit proposal packages that recommend suitable products and loan structures to mitigate credit risk.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate the financial status of clients.
  • Support the loan process from underwriting to final approval and transition to the closing team.
  • Provide credit recommendations based on analytical findings.
  • Assist relationship managers in preparing loan committee presentations.
  • Reduce risk by establishing suitable credit terms and conditions.
  • Examine payment behaviors of clients with overdue accounts and suggest appropriate actions.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and cultivate relationships with internal and external stakeholders, vendors, and centers of influence.
  • Engage in departmental projects and actively participate in cross-functional teams to promote quality enhancements, processes, and initiatives.
  • Collaborate effectively with credit administration and other banking departments.
  • Draft loan write-ups for new loans and renewals.
  • Request reports such as Credit Bureau reports, appraisals, environmental assessments, and D&B reports.
  • Prepare memos for approval modifications and other relevant matters.
  • Generate commitment letters for newly sanctioned loans.
  • Serve as a mentor to junior credit analysts.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Attention to detail and thoroughness in job execution are essential.
  • Ability to analyze complex information and apply logical reasoning.
Education and Experience
  • A Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience in credit administration.
  • Five to eight years of experience in a commercial loan department within a financial institution.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Intermediate understanding of credit underwriting principles.
  • Basic knowledge of accounting, finance, and economic concepts.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • High-level reasoning skills, including problem definition, data collection, fact establishment, and conclusion drawing.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial documents, collateral, cash flow, projections, personal financial statements, tax returns, and various financial ratios.
  • Capability to perform calculations involving discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages, as well as apply basic algebra concepts.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret legal documents, government regulations, and professional literature.
  • Competence in presenting information and addressing inquiries from diverse groups including managers, employees, vendors, government representatives, and the public.
  • Ability to compose reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods, up to 75% of work hours.
  • Capability to use hands for grasping, handling, or feeling.
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard and system for data entry and information processing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through speech, hearing, and vision.
  • Ability to utilize office equipment such as computers, telephones, copiers, and fax machines.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. occasionally.
Working Environment
  • Typical office environment with moderate noise levels from office equipment and personnel.
