POSITION SUMMARY

The Spanish-Speaking Food Pantry Support Specialist plays a vital role within the District Council of Madison, Inc., Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP). This position is essential for the daily management of the Food Pantry and Warehouse operations. Reporting to the Associate Director of Client Services, the Specialist ensures the smooth functioning of various pantry services, including the warehouse, drive-through pantry, online orders, and indoor operations. Additionally, this role provides translation services for Spanish-speaking clients and staff as necessary.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

? Food Pantry Operations and Program Assistance

  • Support the Food Pantry Coordinator in managing daily operations, including drive-through services, online orders, and in-person shopping.
  • Engage with clients respectfully and compassionately.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of the programs offered and provide accurate information regarding community resources and referrals.
  • Facilitate Spanish translation services for staff and clients as required.
  • Issue vouchers to clients and address inquiries about voucher programs.
  • Contribute to creating an inclusive and equitable organizational environment.
  • Comply with the Safeguarding Policy by completing mandatory training and undergoing necessary background checks.

? Warehouse Management

  • Assist Pantry Coordinators in maintaining the organization, cleanliness, and safety of the food pantry warehouse.
  • Collaborate with the Food Pantry Coordinator to ensure all areas of the Service Center are orderly and well-maintained.
  • Operate pallet jacks and manage food pallet organization.
  • Help with the acceptance of donations.
  • Work alongside the Food Pantry Coordinator to ensure the proper functioning of warehouse equipment.
  • Securely open and close the facility.

? Volunteer Engagement

  • Support pantry volunteers to ensure a safe and meaningful experience.
  • Fulfill volunteer roles as needed.
  • Communicate and enforce pantry policies effectively.
  • Step in for volunteer positions as required, including food gleaning at various locations.
  • Exhibit the ability to communicate and interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Implement best practices as outlined by the SVdP Safeguarding policy when working with children and vulnerable adults.
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Language Skills: Proficiency in Spanish is required.

Licenses/Certificates: A valid driver's license is mandatory.

Technology Skills: Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace is essential.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Background in Human Services or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Experience and Training:

  • Experience in addressing food insecurity and/or warehouse operations.
  • Skills in conflict resolution and de-escalation.
  • Strong decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent organizational capabilities.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

  • Employees are frequently required to stand, walk, talk, hear, and use hands to handle objects or controls.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds without assistance, and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Follow instructions and work independently on assigned tasks.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • This position involves outdoor work in various weather conditions.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The food pantry and warehouse environment may contain dust, debris, or allergens associated with donated goods. Certain areas of the warehouse are only partially climate-controlled.
