NYC Health + Hospitals Corporation
Outposted Therapeutic Housing Units Program (OTxHU)
Since its inception, Correctional Health Services (CHS) has been dedicated to providing comprehensive health care within the correctional facilities of New York City. With a strong commitment to upholding human dignity and patient rights, CHS operates as an integral part of the NYC Health + Hospitals system, actively contributing to the reform of the criminal-legal system. Our in-facility clinical services encompass a wide range of care, including medical, nursing, and mental health services; pharmacy support; substance use treatment; social work; dental and vision care; discharge planning; and reentry assistance.
Due to the significance of this initiative, we are in search of highly skilled healthcare professionals to join our Outposted Therapeutic Housing Units (OTxHU). Located within several acute care facilities, the OTxHU represents an innovative approach to enhancing access to high-quality clinical care for individuals in custody with complex health needs. These units will facilitate a seamless transition between care in the jails and inpatient hospitalization, ensuring that admissions and discharges align with the clinical requirements of each patient. CHS will serve as the primary healthcare providers in these units, while the NYC Department of Correction will manage security and custody.
The OTxHU at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue in Manhattan is set to be the first of its kind, marking a groundbreaking project aimed at improving health outcomes for some of the City’s most vulnerable populations.
